Hospital open day

For the third year running, people were able to go behind the scenes of Southampton General Hospital and get ‘inside the body’ amid a host of fun and educational activities on 15 October 2011.

Departments opening their doors included cystic fibrosis, the eye unit, the Macmillan centre, pathology and the University of Southampton and Cancer Research UK labs.

There was also the opportunity to get your arm plastered, see the new helipad, watch a virtual autopsy and practice your surgeon skills by having a go on a giant version of the operation game.

Southampton Hospital Charity asked visitors to make a small donation on the day to help support the wards and departments that they visited and hoped to raise a total of £1,000 to go directly to projects and equipment at the hospital.
