Change of Trust name
This page contains information about the change of Trust name following authorisation as a foundation trust by Monitor.
All Trusts are required to reflect the change in their status by changing their name and we agreed during public consultation that we would become University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The new logo is below:
Why this name?
Our status as a university hospital distinguishes us among other NHS organisations in the area and we wanted this to be prominent in our name and logo. A singular 'hospital' was proposed to convey that although we operate more than 70 specialities from a number of different hospital sites we are in reality a single hospital with one Board of Directors.
Who decided?
The Trust Board decided to put this name forward for public consultation when our FT application began and the majority of respondents to our consultation supported the choice including the University of Southampton and the Strategic Health Authority.
What about the hospital building names?
Our hospital buildings will still be known by their existing names - Southampton General Hospital, Princess Anne Hospital, Countess Mountbatten House and New Forest Birth Centre.
How much is it costing?
The cost of changing our name will be kept to an absolute minimum because we intend to introduce the new name and logo on a replacement-only basis.
This means you may still see products or printed materials, such as letters and patient information leaflets, that still have our old name and logo on them for some time to come.
Websites and email addresses
From now on the Trust website is at www.uhs.nhs.uk|
For a while the old address of www.suht.nhs.uk| will also work.
Email addresses have also changed, to end with @uhs.nhs.uk rather than @suht.swest.nhs.uk
Don’t worry if you accidentally email an old-style adress though – it will still reach the right person as they are being automatically forwarded.
