NHS foundation trust

We have been authorised as a foundation trust (FT) with effect from 1 October 2011.

As well as being a significant endorsement of our hospital by an external body, this is a pivotal moment on the journey to making our 2020Vision| a reality. We would like to thank the local and regional partners who have worked with us to make this possible.

Our membership and the Members’ Council| they elected now have a statutory role in our organisation. Council members have already been working for two years to run the Members' Council in shadow form and we look forward to embracing their strengthened role in the Trust.

To reflect this change we will now be called University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust|. Read more detail about what foundation trust status means| for us and our patients and how you can become a member|.

We face many challenges as a hospital and a health economy and our new responsibilities reinforce our desire to work with you as an effective and supportive partner for the benefit of patients.
