Cardiac recruitment nurse
Southampton’s university hospitals are looking to fill more than 75 specialist nursing roles following a huge expansion of cardiac services.
The recruitment drive centres on encouraging nurses who are not currently practising to return to work, as well as attracting experienced registered nurses.
Newly created posts are available within the cardiac wards, vascular ward and cardiac high dependency units at Southampton General Hospital.
Cardiovascular and thoracic services have increased capacity, with six new high dependency beds, 22 new ward beds and one new cardiac intensive care bed. The departments aim to take on an additional 700 patients each year.
The final stage of expansion, a refurbishment of non-invasive cardiology, was completed in June and sees enlarged and dedicated rooms for clinical investigations and improved waiting areas.
Juliet Pearce, matron in cardiovascular and thoracic services, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming a new wave of specialist nurses and a range of other staff members to join us in these exciting times following expansion.
“The new recruits will play an important part in continuing to develop the Trust’s reputation as a centre of nursing excellence, ensuring patients receive a high quality experience during their hospital stay.”
Alongside cardiac vacancies, Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust also has regular opportunities for nursing staff in critical care and neurosciences.

As part of the dedicated cardiac recruitment campaign, another 46 staff are required to fill consultant, technician, healthcare assistant and administration roles – taking the total number of vacancies to 123.
