A top orthopaedic surgeon based at Southampton General Hospital has been elected to the European Board of the world's largest spinal society.
Surgeon Evan Davies was selected by a voting electorate of 1,000 members to sit on the AOSpine European Board (AOSEU) for three years.
Internationally, AOSpine has a membership of around 8,000 surgeons, researchers and other heath professionals and is responsible for providing new educational and training programmes for spine surgeons.
AOSEU is made up of a body of surgeons from around Europe and has its own decision making capacity and budgetary control. The board is chaired by Marinus de Kleuver of the Netherlands.
Mr Davies said: "It is a great honour to be recognised by fellow spinal surgeons across Europe and to be given the chance to influence training and development programmes around the world.
"The society is extending its reach every day and it is very advantageous to me and my colleagues here to have regular communication with other leading international professionals."
AOSpine International consists of five regions: Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and North America.
