Trust appoints new medical director

Dr Michael Marsh

Leading paediatric consultant Dr Michael Marsh has been appointed medical director at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust.

He takes over from Professor William Roche, who joined NHS South East Coast Strategic Health Authority in April.

The medical director role will see Dr Marsh split his time between his clinical work as a consultant paediatric intensivist and representing the medical interests of the Trust and its clinicians.

“I am honoured to take up such a prominent position within the Trust and very much look forward to developing our vision for the future,” he said.

“We possess some of the country’s top medical professionals and it is a pleasure to be given the opportunity to work alongside them to continue driving forward.”

Dr Marsh has held various senior positions since joining SUHT in September 1998, taking in spells as director of the paediatric intensive care unit, clinical lead for paediatrics and divisional clinical director for women and children.

He has also played a major part in securing the development of a world-class specialised children’s hospital on the Southampton General site.
