Teen singing sensation Donel Mangena will meet patients and staff at Southampton Children’s Hospital tomorrow (Tuesday).
The Southampton-based star, 16, who was runner-up in The Voice UK 2018, will perform his debut single Bang Like a Drum before taking a tour of the wards.
Donel, who honed his skills at a small recording studio in his family home in Woolston, became a national hit after wowing coaches on the ITV show with his rendition of Major Lazer’s Cold Water in the blind auditions.
He was mentored on the programme by Will.i.am and signed by Polydor Records after its finale. He later performed for the Queen at the request of Prince Harry.
“I am really looking forward to meeting hospital patients, staff and visitors in my local city,” said Donel.
“It will be a great feeling to sing for everyone while I am there and put some smiles on faces for those who are going through some tough times, as well as the staff who work tirelessly to care for them.”
Joyce Stebbings, youth and play services manager at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are extremely grateful to Donel for taking the time to visit us and perform in what will be a slightly more unusual environment for him.
“There is much anticipation and excitement around the wards and we are delighted our young patients will have the opportunity to meet and listen to such a fantastic local talent.”
