New data protection laws (GDPR) come into effect

GDPR (1)

New data protection laws designed to give individuals more control over how organisations use their personal information come into force today.

Known as the general data protection regulation (GDPR), the changes are in response to the huge amount of digital data that has been created in recent years.

It means businesses and public sector organisations have to meet new standards in how they handle personal information and gives people more control of what information is held about them.

The new rules do not affect the handling of patient data at University Hospital Southampton.

If you'd like to find out we handle your data and how you can gain access to the information, visit our right of access pages or read our patient information leaflet on patient data. You can also contact the data protection office via dataprotection@uhs.nhs.uk or 020 8120 4743.
