Home healthcare company scoops award for partnership work with UHS
A home healthcare provider has won an award for its work helping to get UHS patients home quicker.
Healthcare at Home, which works in partnership with UHS to run the Trust’s Enhanced Supported Discharge (ESD) service, struck gold at the annual HealthInvestor Awards 2012 in London.
The public/private partnership of the year award presented to Healthcare at Home was in recognition of the innovative “recovery at home” project, provided in partnership with UHS.
Judges said the success of the service was testament to the vision and determination shown by both organisations, but particularly the hard work, dedication and excellent care delivered by clinical staff and all those working behind the scenes to support them.
The ESD service, launched at UHS in October 2010 means carefully selected patients at Southampton General Hospital can go home quicker, providing the right support is in place.
As well as improving the patient experience, getting people home faster helps relieve pressure on wards – freeing up beds for others in need.

Care groups currently benefitting from the service include trauma and orthopaedics, neuro, vascular, cardiothoracic, general medicine and general surgery.
Just over 1,450 patients had used the service up to the end of July 2012.
