Clinical outcomes

Our clinical effectiveness work is based on widespread local and national audits along with a focus on improving mortality rates and embedding the national patient reported outcome measures (PROMS).

Recent work to improve clinical outcomes has included:

  • developing a new clinical pathway for patients admitted with a fractured neck of femur (broken hip);
  • establishing a heart attack centre with 24 hour and seven-day-a week emergency angioplasty treatment;
  • opening two additional paediatric intensive care beds and seven additional cardiac high dependency unit beds;
  • producing a timely, typed summary to GPs on their patient’s plan of care on discharge from hospital;
  • setting up a rapid response service to improve outcomes for patients by using clotbusting treatment.
