Cold weather advice
In cold and icy conditions, our emergency department often sees an increase in broken bones, many from avoidable slips and falls. Our doctors urge members of the public not to venture outside or make non-essential trips during freezing weather conditions, to make sure you stay as safe as possible and to reduce pressure on our hospitals.
We also suggest that you check on elderly neighbours and ensure they - and you - are warm and well.
We urge patients who are due to attend outpatient appointments but cannot travel to use the online cancellation form where possible. If you are unable to do so, please phone the number on your appointment letter, to relieve pressure on the hospital switchboard.
Patients concerned about their health should consider the full range of support available, including visiting the NHS Choices website, telephoning NHS 111 on 111, visiting a local pharmacy, contacting their GP practice or attending the minor injuries unit on the Royal South Hants site. Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group will help you choose well from local health services.
For information on school closures, road gritting, adult social care, waste collection and other local services, visit the Southampton City Council website.
Blood stocks often run low as a result of adverse weather conditions so make a blood donation if you can.
