Trust grant allows purchase of state of the art equipment for Southampton’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit

PICU Baby PodThe medical team at Southampton General Hospital’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) have purchased a state of the art Baby Pod, thanks to a generous grant of £4706.09 from the Freddie McGuire Charitable Trust.

These lightweight carbon fibre pods, lined with a shock absorbent inner layer, are used by the retrieval team to transfer children under 6kg in weight, safely and securely from other hospitals to Southampton.

Richard Scott, critical care technologist at Southampton General Hospital said, “We are delighted that the Freddie McGuire Charitable Trust has made such a generous donation, allowing us to purchase another of these fantastic Baby Pods.”

“These specialist items are so important to the PICU retrieval team so that we can provide the very best care for our young patients, from the word go.”
