Cake & Concert event proves a hit with elderly patients

Musical Entertainment on G6 Ward

Staff and patients on G6 ward were entertained with music and cakes on Thursday 25th March.

Patients and visitors across the ward were serenaded with well-known tunes, and were able to make musical requests. The musical entertainment was accompanied with tea and cakes, served by volunteers, with John Lewis, West Quay, kindly providing crockery, and Dream Toppings providing cup cakes for the event.

Katie Ord, Matron for Older People said, "It's been fantastic to see the patients enjoying the Cake & Concert events and signing along, bringing back fond memories for them. The afternoons have proven light-hearted and inspiring, and we have also found that the cakes and tea have been a great way to help with patient nutrition."

Matron Jill Young goes on to say, "Together with Southampton Hospital Charity, we continue to work towards improving the provision of entertainment for our patients on the medicine for older people wards, fundraising for televisions with integrated DVD and CD players, which will make such a difference to their stay."

Following generous funding from the League of Friends at Southampton General Hospital, the Cake & Concert events, which aim to bring appropriate live music to the patient bedside, will be held on a regular basis across the Medicine for Older People wards.
