Companies from across the city are getting into the swing of fundraising for Southampton Hospital Charity’s Red & White Appeal Monkey Challenge.|
Local businesses have been set the goal of raising £500 (‘a monkey’) in the lead up to Christmas, which will go towards the £2.2million campaign to create a specialist day unit for patients receiving treatment for leukaemia and other life threatening blood disorders at Southampton General Hospital.
Among those who have taken on the challenge are RBS corporate employees who organised an alternative golf day and raised a total of £7,390.
Dan Salanson, Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking at RBS Solent said, “We have been delighted to have had the Red and White Appeal as our chosen charity in 2011. The team have held a number of events throughout the year culminating in one brave member of the team jumping out of an aeroplane (thankfully attached to a parachute!) and most recently in our "Red and White" golf day for Southampton's professional community. Our thanks go to all the local accountancy and legal firms who supported us in making this such a successful day."
Employees at Aviva Southampton have also completed the challenge by selling their own Olympics-themed calendar.
Southampton Hospital Charity’s fundraising manager Carrie Bolt said, “It is fantastic that employees of RBS and Aviva have got behind the Red & White Appeal and come up with some brilliant ways to raise a monkey and help us towards our target.”
Carrie continued, “Their support will make a big difference to the lives of blood cancer patients from across the region and we are so grateful to everyone involved. We would be delighted for other local businesses to get involved in supporting our Appeal this Christmas.”
Every company that completes the Monkey Challenge will be entered into a prize draw to win a day out at a Go Ape challenge centre for up to 6 colleagues.
