Dan Balme's 101-hole golf challenge in memory of twin sister

This August, friends Dan Balme and Steve Evans will take on the challenge of playing 101 golf holes in one day to raise funds for Piam Brown children’s cancer unit at Southampton General Hospital.

Teeing off at Sandmartins Golf Club in Wokingham on Sunday 7 August, the pair, both aged 33, have chosen to raise money for the regional children’s cancer unit that treated Dan’s twin sister Amanda twenty years ago.

Dan said, “The amazing people at the Piam Brown unit took excellent care of Amanda during her illness and right up to the end of her life. 7 August will be the anniversary of Amanda’s death and we felt that the golf challenge would be an excellent opportunity to raise as much money as possible for those that made her last year on earth as pleasant as humanly possible.”

“I can think of no-one more deserving of our fundraising to support their work. They assist not only those children fighting against cancer but also the families struggling to support and endure the fight with them. The team of nursing staff are an amazing group of people who go so far beyond their job role to assist children and families affected by cancer, making the worst times at least bearable.”

The Piam Brown unit| cares for around 90 new patients every year with all types of childhood cancers from across the Wessex region, from a day old to 18 years of age.
