F8 team set their sights high for Southampton Stroke Unit

The F8 three peaks team

A team of staff and family members of F8 acute stroke unit at Southampton General Hospital are gearing up to take on the three highest peaks in the UK, all in 24 hours.

The group of eight dedicated walkers, which includes physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and nurses, will climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon on 28 May to raise funds for the unit, and help provide the very best services and facilities for patients and their families.

The team said, “Our aim is to raise money for therapy equipment to enhance the rehabilitation of patients. Stroke patients face huge challenges during their rehab, and we felt that we could raise funds by undertaking the physical and mental effort of the three peaks challenge, although it is nowhere near as difficult as the path our patients have ahead of them.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has already sponsored us, including Gail Munroe who donated £1,000 from a local Weight Watchers group and Wellington Signs who have provided us with tshirts.”

The team have already reached their initial fundraising target of £5,000 thanks to money raised by Bobby’s Bus who will be driving the team on the day, and a £2,000 donation from the Barker-Mill Trust. Their goal now stands at £10,000, and the team are also seeking sponsorship for petrol that will be used travelling between the three peaks. Sponsor the team online|
