Thanks to the fundraising efforts of a grateful family, nursing staff on G4NU Childrens Ward at Southampton General Hospital, have been able to purchase laptops to be used by children receiving treatment.
Following his stepdaughter’s treatment on the specialist unit, Graham Norman walked Hadrian’s Wall, along with his stepson, raising £600 for the unit as a thank you to the medical and nursing staff.
This money has allowed the team to purchase laptops, which can be used for teaching and also for play, by young patients receiving haemodialysis treatment. Patients undergoing dialysis on the unit, often receive treatment three times a week, for up to four hours at a time.
Sarah Grylls, Clinical Nurse Specialist said, “The children cared for on G4NU and the haemodialysis unit often have life limiting problems and are required to spend a large proportion of their time in hospital undergoing treatment or dialysis. It is thanks to the generosity of people like Graham that we have been able to provide equipment to enhance the experience that these children have whilst in hospital.”
Nursing staff on the Unit are continuing to fundraise to create an environment which exceeds the expectations of patients and visitors. If you would like to make a donation to G4NU Children’s Unit, please contact Southampton Hospital Charity on 023 8079 8881 or email charity@uhs.nhs.uk|.
