Southampton Hospital Charity were proud to host two unforgettable evening’s of entertainment at the Mayflower, Southampton when the West End’s favourite musical comedy Hairspray came to town.
Lucky guests on Monday 24th May and Tuesday 25th May enjoyed the smash-hit show, and were then treated to an exclusive after-show drinks reception, where they were able to personally meet star of the show Michael Ball, who played larger than life heroine Edna Turnblad. Les Dennis who starred alongside Michael, as Edna Turnblad’s husband Wilbur, also made a surprise appearance.
A total of over £4,500 was raised over the two evenings through special ticket sales and bucket collections. The money raised will go to Southampton Hospital Charity’s Red & White Appeal, which aims to raise £2.2 million to create the transplant treatment centre of choice for patients with Leukaemia and other blood disorders from Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Sussex and the Channel Islands.
Richard Brazier, Chairman of the Red & White Appeal said, “We would like to thank the Mayflower for their support with this event, which proved to be a real success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Warm thanks also to the stars of Hairspray who made the evenings so special, and to our supporters whose generosity really will make a difference to haematology patients at Southampton General Hospital.
