Jodie takes to the sky for £2.2million Appeal

Jodie Younie skydiveJodie Younie from Ryde on the Isle of Wight has taken the plunge with a sponsored skydive, raising £1,725 for Southampton Hospital Charity’s Red & White Appeal.|

Jodie’s jump came just months after husband Andrew was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and underwent a stem cell transplant at Southampton General Hospital.

Andrew returned home from 3 weeks spent in isolation, at the beginning of March. Keen to support her husband and many other patients like him, Jodie, 36, was the successful bidder on the Coast 106 fm’s online auction for Southampton Hospital Charity’s Red & White Appeal Day on Friday 4 March, winning herself a place on a tandem skydive with Skydive South Coast.

Jodie says, “When my husband was being treated at Southampton General he received brilliant care. However I did feel that money could be well spent on improving day case facilities for patients, which is exactly what the Red & White Appeal aims to do.

”Andrew has been through so much and I thought to myself ‘I can do something to help’, so when the opportunity came up on Red & White Appeal Day I jumped at the chance to support the charity, and our family will continue to support the Appeal with other fundraising over the coming months.”

The Red & White Appeal aims to raise £2.2million to create a specialist treatment centre for patients with life threatening blood disorders, from across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Sussex and the Channel Islands. Find out more.|
