Staff at Southampton General Hospital’s specialist haematology unit recently received a visit from MP for Romsey and Southampton North, Caroline Nokes, to find out about a £2.2million project, which aims to transform patient facilities.

Southampton Hospital Charity’s Red & White Appeal| aims to create a specialist outpatient treatment unit for patients with leukaemia and other forms of blood cancer, from across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Wiltshire, Dorset, West Sussex and the Channel Islands.

This state of the art unit will enable medical staff to vastly improve the quality of care for all patients receiving treatment for these life-threatening conditions.

Mrs Nokes said, “The inpatient facilities for those suffering with leukaemia and other blood disorders are now really state of the art, but the follow up treatment is lengthy and critically important.  This project will see the outpatient facilities dramatically improved, and will make a big difference to both patients and staff.  I sincerely hope the £2.2million target is reached and the patients start to benefit.”

Veryan Grant, Director of Southampton Hospital Charity said, "We are hugely grateful for the support of Mrs Nokes in backing this vital Appeal. Over £844,000 has been raised so far, and we are urging local businesses and the community to get involved and continue to support the Appeal, so that we can reach our target as quickly as possible.
