On Saturday 24th July a team of intrepid adventurers will embark on a gruelling 270-mile cycle challenge across Wales to raise money for Southampton General Hospital’s Piam Brown Unit.
The team of 11 riders, headed by Stephen Collins, are hoping to raise a total of £20,000 for Southampton Hospital Charity’s Piam Brown Ward Fund to benefit patients and their families on the unit where Stephen’s daughter received specialist care.
The Piam Brown Unit is the Regional Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Centre, treating children with all types of childhood cancers. Caring for patients from a day old to 16 years of age, the unit treats around 90 new children every year.
Stephen Collins said, "We are so indebted to everyone on the Piam Brown Unit and are thrilled to be able to support them in this small way."
The Chair of Conwy Council, Councillor Brenda Taylor, will see the team off from Conwy Castle, North Wales at 9.00am on the 24th July. They will then ride across the notorious off-road Sarn Helen Trail, finishing seven days later at the Gower Peninsula, South Wales, where Paralympic cyclist, Simon Richardson hopes to join the team for the final stage.
Aiming to clock up between 30 and 60 miles each day, the dedicated riders will return home on 1st August.
