Staff and patients on Southampton General Hospital’s G3 ward are celebrating the recent donation of a new syringe driver from a grateful Channel Islands family.
Eight year old James Le Maitre from Guernsey, was diagnosed with Talipes (club foot) in 2000 and has received regular treatment at Southampton General Hospital under the care of consultants Mr Uglow and Professor Clark.
James has undergone many operations since the year 2000 and in July 2008 he required a major procedure to correct the foot deformity, hopefully finally. This operation applied a special frame to the outside of James' leg which was used to gradually correct of the deformity over many weeks.
James’ father, Stuart Le Maitre said, “We are delighted to donate a new syringe pump to the ward that has cared so well for James for so many years. It’s comforting to know that the equipment will help to administer pain relief to the children who are cared for here.”
Consultant Mike Uglow said, "James had a very challenging foot deformity and after several months of treatment I am delighted with the final outcome that has been achieved. It has been difficult for James but he has been very brave about having the frame on."
