Ward and department fundraising

Southampton Hospital Charity fundraises for ward and department charity projects across Southampton General Hospital and the Princess Anne maternity hospital, as well as for outreach services.  Donors are encouraged to support any area of the Trust close to their heart.

Areas of the Trust that could benefit from your generous donation include:

Breast health

Providing specialist services for the diagnosis and treatment of breast disorders and breast cancer.

Cancer care

Providing non-surgical cancer services, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment; clinical haematology; chronic pain management and also specialist palliative care services including hospice services at Countess Mountbatten House. 

Child health

Caring for children and babies with a wide range of needs including neonatal and paediatric intensive care, surgery, urology, cancer care, allergy, endocrine, diabetes, nephrology, urology, neurology, cystic fibrosis, gastroenterology, oncology, immunology, orthopaedic, haematology and child psychiatry. 

Cardiothoracic care

Providing specialist services including the most advanced care for heart attack patients, diagnostics, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and rehabilitation for adults and children. 

Clinical support

Providing essential support services throughout the Trust including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy occupational therapy, nutrition and pharmacy services. 

Critical care

Providing the intensive care needed for the critically ill, including general and cardiac intensive care, anaesthetics and acute pain care. The Rapid Response Team based within the Critical Care department, provide resuscitation and intensive care services for patients throughout the hospital. 

Emergency care

Providing essential initial treatment, including a full resuscitation service for patients of all ages with a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries, many of which may be life threatening. 

Environment

Improving the general public areas of the hospital through landscaping, commissioning artwork and sculptures, and by improving signage and access. 

Medicine and elderly care

Caring for the needs of elderly patients and all patients with acute medical conditions. Services include allergy, cystic fibrosis, dermatology, endoscopy, gastroenterology, hepatology, renal, respiratory and rheumatology care. 

Neurosciences

Providing neurosurgical and neurological assessment and treatment for adults and children; including cranial and spinal trauma; brain haemorrhage; brain tumours and acute/chronic neurological diseases such as Parkinsons Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and motor neurone disease. Also providing inpatient and outpatient treatment for patients with head and neck cancers and those who need orthodontic surgery. 

Obstetrics and gynaecology

Comprehensive care for mother and baby throughout pregnancy. Services include hospital and community midwifery care and fetal medicine for the unborn child. Fertility and cancer services are also provided. 

Ophthalmology

Caring for patients with conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration at the Eye Unit and providing a specialist casualty service. Diagnosis and treatment is also provided at a number of sites close to the patients’ homes and research into medical and surgical interventions is helping to ensure optimum vision for all patients. 

Pathology

Providing diagnoses through testing and analysis; such as testing tissue for cancer, organ and blood donor matching, blood testing and testing for allergies and asthma. 

Radiology

Using the latest technology such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, PET CT scanning and X-ray to provide fast and accurate diagnoses. Also performing the latest minimally invasive image guided surgical intervention and advanced treatment for both inpatients and day cases. 

Surgery

Child and PlayworkerPerforming a wide range of operations including cancer surgery, vascular surgery, ear nose and throat surgery, gastroentestinal and urological surgery. 

Theatres

Providing a full theatre service for patients pre, during and post surgery; including reception, scrub nurses, anaesthetic assistant, specially trained recovery nurses and also play specialists for children undergoing surgery.

Trauma and orthopaedics

Providing a full range of general and specialist trauma and orthopaedic services including hip, knee, ankle, hand, shoulder and spinal.
