Jane Martin, childrens senior research sister
Jane jointly coordinates an experienced team of children’s research nurses, aiming to ensure that all children have the opportunity to take part in and enjoy research within the facility, hospital and wider community.
Jane supports consultants from all specialities to undertake a wide variety of studies within the facility. She works closely with the research support team to review incoming studies, overseeing the set up and implementation of each project.
She also coordinates the day-to-day activity within the children’s research nurse team, and supports them in the delivery of safe and smooth running of the research studies.
Jane is the main facility nurse contact for NIHR Clinical Research Network Wessex, and works to encourage links with regional teams delivering research locally, promoting the benefit of engaging clinical staff in delivering research on the wards and involving specialist nurses.
Jane was appointed as children’s senior research sister in 2015, having worked as a research nurse in the unit since 2009. Jane originally qualified as children’s and adult nurse, however her passion is in children’s nursing and her career has led her to specialise in research.
She has worked on many different studies, often leading to changes in clinical care or diagnosis of a disease. She presented at the UK Clinical Research Facility Network conferences in 2015.
