NIHR Southampton Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit
This unit provides unique research tools, facilities and world-leading expertise to take discoveries, new treatments and technologies from laboratory into clinic, across our respiratory research areas.
Funded by the National Institute for Health Research, this unit consolidates and builds on over 30 years of leading research into respiratory biology and care.
Enabling Southampton's respiratory research
The unit brings Southampton's leading respiratory experts together with core teams of research expertise and specialist facilities, many shared with Southampton's other clinical research areas, to enable our four key respiratory research areas:
- managing severe asthma
- allergies, immunity and infection
- lung injury and critical care
- right treatment, right person, right time.
Collaborating to advance new treatments
The unit collaborates extensively with other research sites in the UK and internationally, and with the pharmaceutical industry, to give patients quicker access to new treatments, and accelerate their development.
