Lifelab: Behaviour change in school children
Lifelab gives school students hands-on learning about science and health. It’s our project to advance health literacy and to assess its impact on participants' health choices, their health and the health of their future children.
Key investigator: Prof Mark Hanson
Progress to date
The Lifelab facility was formally opened in June 2014 by the Duchess of Wessex, consolidating the platform for delivering this intervention and the cluster randomised control trial assessing its impact.
Over 2014-15 schools were recruited, the pedagogical approach developed and teaching materials designed. A British Heart Foundation project grant for evaluation was secured, alongside a University of Southampton Student Centeredness Fund. Additional ‘Meet the scientist’ activities in LifeLab and other public engagement events through the facility have been highly successful.
