I qualified here in Southampton and did my paediatric training in the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London, the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, Melbourne Children’s Hospital, Australia, A;lder Hey Childrens’ Hospital, Liverpool before heading back to Wessex as a specialist registrar.
Experience
Dr Abay has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since April 2003.
I have a solid foundation in general paediatrics both acutely and in outpatients. My particular interests are respiratory disease such as asthma and allergy management at secondary care level. I have good links with the Emergency Department and Primary Care specialist asthma nurses. I am lucky to have lung function, skin prick testing, venesection and epipen training available in all my clinics
Key achievements
I am proud to have set up the 24 hour Paediatric Assessment Unit, improving the child and family’s experience when acutely unwell. Better bed use has also meant less closure of the paediatric unit.
I have been College Tutor for five years supporting the junior doctors and their training needs.
I also have an active role with Final Year students as Joint Final Year Co ordinator with insight from my own time here as a student.
