Dr Charlton has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since 1992.

Qualified in South Africa.  Trained as Anaesthetist in London (St. Bartholomews and Guys Hospitals) and Southampton.  Year at Denver Childrens Hospital to gain experience in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia.  Appointed consultant at Southampton General Hospital in 1992.

Awarded the Evelyn Baker medal in 2007 by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain for outstanding clinical competence.
