Training and Education
I trained in medicine at the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guys and St. Thomas Hospital, London and qualified in 1996. Following a variety of SHO posts in London Hospitals, I commenced my Specialist Registrar training in medical oncology at Southampton University Hospitals Trust in 2001. I was awarded my CCT in medical oncology in December 2009.
Experience
Dr Copson has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since June 2009.
During my Specialist Registrar training period I gained extensive experience in the management of all solid tumours. From 2008 onwards I have specialised in the medical management of early and metastatic breast cancer. I have a particular interest in the diagnosis and management of familial breast cancer.
Key achievements
Between 2004 and 2008 I undertook a period of laboratory research investigating the pathogenic potential of missense mutations in the BRCA1 gene. I was awarded my PhD in March 2009.
