Experience
Professor Eccles has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since January 1996
Development of genetic testing for cancer predisposition through translational research activities in 1990s especially in colon, breast and ovarian cancer predisposition. Establishment of cancer genetics from 1996 as part of the clinical genetics service, training genetic counsellors in cancer genetics and building clinical service with new funding opportunities.
Key achievements
Established Regional Cancer Genetics Service from 1996. EC funded Europewide study of genetic services for cancer 1996-1999. Establishment of NCRN prospective young onset breast cancer study. Collaborative research to learn more about use of genetic information for patient benefit

MacElwain prize for outstanding research in Oncology (1992), Healthcare Foundation Mid Career Award (2002/3), Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (1999)
