Dr Faust has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since February 2006.

SHO/SpR Training in Paediatrics at Great Ormond Street Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital Paddington, University College London, Hammersmith Hospital, the Whittington Hospital, Royal London Hospital, Tower Hamlets PCT and Edgware General Hospital. Clinical Research Training as MRC Clinical Research Fellow and Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London St Mary's Campus.  

Key achievements

Joined SUHT/UoS as Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Infectious Diseases & Immunology and Assistant Director of the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility at the University of Southampton, becoming Director in 2007. Started first SUHT Paediatric Infectious Diseases Service (first SUHT clinical infection service) and Developed Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Disease from 2006. Responsible for adult and paediatric research governance on the WTCRF and for paediatric research governance for Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust. As WTCRF Director has co-convened the development of the Southampton Clinical Research Institute linking the WTCRF, SUHT R&D, UoS CTU, RDS and Respiratory/Nutrition BRUs.  Developing strong research links between University infection researchers, SUHT and the HPA Regional Laboratory on the SUHT Campus. Member of National Medicines for Children Research Network Study Adoption Committee, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Lead for Paediatrics and the Medicines for Children Research Network.

Research

Current research interests investigate the pathophysiology and treatment of paediatric and neonatal sepsis. Current projects include work to bridge the clinical-laboratory interface in paediatric infectious diseases and respiratory medicine (as part of the Southampton NIHR Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit), and in developing local and national clinical trials in paediatric infectious diseases. He is chief investigator of a NIHR Medicines for Children Research Network adopted phase II multicentre study of corticosteroids in paediatric sepsis, funded by the Meningitis Research Foundation.  Co-author of national algorithm for management of meningingococcal disease in children and national guidelines for managing paediatric bone and joint infections. Member, NICE guideline development group for diarrhoaa and vomiting in children under 5.
