I undertook general urological surgical training in Bristol and Wessex, prior to undertaking a fellowship in urological cancer surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London in 2001-2. I am now a consultant urological surgeon at SUHT and honorary senior lecturer in the School of Medicine, University of Southampton.
Experience
Mr Hayes has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since August 2002.
I was appointed in 2002 to further develop subspecialisation in urological cancer surgery in Southampton. I provide services in bladder, kidney and testis cancer, and collaborate in a regional retroperitoneal cancer service.
Key achievements
I am medical director of the Central South Coast Cancer Network, having been appointed in 2011. As such I have been instrumental in the implementation of national improving outcomes guidance (IOG) across the cancer network, and in the development of cancer strategy mainly across the south coast of England.
I act as a facilitator within SUHT for the 360 degree consultant appraisal process and am a consultant mentor.
I am the final year co-ordinator for medical students undertaking their surgical attachment within the school of medicine, University of Southampton across a number of hospitals in the south of England.
I represent the Royal College of Surgeons of England on consultant appointment committees for NHS trusts in England and Wales.
