Experience

Mr Johnson has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since 1988. 

Trained as a Gastrointestinal Surgeon, and specialised in pancreatic surgery. Visiting Fellow in Pancreatic Surgery, Ulm and Erlangen, Germany, 1990.
Extensive experience of operating on pancreatic tumours, and chronic pancreatitis. Expert specialist management of acute pancreatitis

Key achievements

Co-ordinated the writing of BSG Guidelines on the management of pancreatic cancer, and led the revision of UK Guidelines for the management of acute pancreatitis, both published 2005. My research on organ failure in acute pancreatitis is now incorporated into practice guidelines worldwide.

President of Pancreatic Society 2001 (Secretary 1993-1998) ; Chair of Pancreatic Section of BSG 1998-2001 (Secretary 1993-1998). Past council Member of European Pancreatic Club, and International Association of Pancreatology.
Led the bid for and the development programme for centralisation of pancreatic surgery in Central South Coast and Dorset Cancer Networks 2004-2007.
