Mr Newsom has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since July 2003. 

Developed new treatments for Wet Macular degeneration. Developed a retinal research group in Southampton. Improvements to Vitreoretinal  and paediatric laser surgery. Work in West Africia, on international hospital ship.

Key achievements

Raised over £500,000 for retinal research, Examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmology, 'NICE' reviewer for new treatments for macular degeneration, DOH committee for dangerous pathogens.
