Training and Education
I graduated in medicine from the University of London and completed general medical training in London. This was followed by a Wellcome Training Fellowship in Clinical Epidemiology at the MRC Unit in Southampton and higher specialist medical training in Wessex. I became a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine in November 1998.
Experience
Professor Sayer has worked for Southampton University Hospitals Trust since November 1998.
My in-patient and out-patient clinical work involves a special interest in sarcopenia, frailty and other geriatric syndromes, multiple morbidity and complex care needs.
My research work also involves a focus on sarcopenia and frailty, and has led to setting up an interdisciplinary Ageing and Health Group which aims to carry out high quality integrated clinical, epidemiological, basic and social science research that translates into improving the health of older people.

Honorary Consultant and lead for the Prof RSJ Briggs Academic Unit on G Level SUHT which has the remit of developing and evaluating complex multidisciplinary acute care for older people admitted to hospital.
