Cardiac catheterisation
Course description
This course will introduce the delegate to the fundamental physics of pressure measurement systems. It will provide detailed information regarding pressure waveforms and normal values. It will explore the dynamics of working within a multi-disciplinary team. The course will provide detailed instruction of physiological monitoring during cardiac catheterisation. As part of the blended learning experience, e-resources will be provided to enhance the learning experience.
This module has been created to align with national competencies set by the professional body.
Aims and outcomes
At the end of this module you should be able to:
-
Discuss the principles of pressure measurement
-
Identify arterial and venous pressure wave forms
-
Measure pressure wave forms
-
Describe the physiological monitoring during cardiac catheterisation
-
Identify typical cardiac catheters used during a diagnostic procedure
Target audience
This course is suited for cardiac physiologists in year two or three of the degree programme and healthcare professionals with an interest in cardiology, especially those intending to work within the cardiac catheter laboratory environment.
