Care of central lines

Course description

The course will cover:

  • Indications for central lines
  • Principles of care of central lines
  • Removal of central lines
  • Assisting with insertion of central lines
  • Taking blood from central lines
  • Measuring central venous pressures
 
Aims and outcomes

This course meets level three circulation (CVP management) as outlined in the acute care skills competency framework.

 
Target audience

All staff who want to gain confidence in caring for patients who require central lines.

 
Prerequisites

Currently care for patients with central lines.
