Tracheostomy care

Course description

The course will cover:

  • Revision of anatomy
  • Indications for tracheostomy
  • Complications of tracheostomies
  • Communication issues

Workshops will include:

  • Dressing tracheostomies
  • Humidification of tracheostomies
  • Suctioning of tracheostomies
  • Types of tubes care and cleaning
  • Dealing with emergencies  
 
Aims and outcomes

This course meets level four breathing (care and management of patient with tracheostomy) as outlined in the acute care skills competency framework.

 
Target audience

Any member of staff, who is required to care for patients with tracheostomy tubes.
