Transthoracic echocardiography course

Course description
This course will introduce the physics of ultrasound allowing echo cardiographers to understand how images are created. The delegates will be provided will detailed information regarding image acquisition. Practical teaching to optimise image quality will support this. Case studies will be used to develop echocardiographic interpretation and introduce cardiac pathologies. The course will also provide on-line resources to continue the learning experience post event. This module has been aligned with the national competency framework.
 
Aims and outcomes
At the end of this module you should be able to:
  • Define the principles of ultrasound imaging
  • Recall the standard echocardiographic views
  • Obtain and optimise standard transthoracic echocardiographic images
  • Identify cardiac anatomy visualised by transthoracic echocardiography
  • Discuss features of cardiac pathology
 
Target audience
Healthcare professionals with an interest in cardiology and BSc students in years three or four in cardiac physiology.
