Venous thromboembolism (e-VTE)

Course description

e-VTE is an e-learning resource for venous thromboembolism developed by the chief cedical Officer’s VTE implementation working group in partnership with e-learning for healthcare.

 
Aims and outcomes

Pre-learning questionnaire

  • Aims to test the learner’s existing understanding of venous thromboembolism (VTE), its risk factors, incidence in the UK and the process of VTE risk assessment

Session 1 – Demographics, epidemiology and risk of VTE

  • Aims to improve the understanding of the demographics, epidemiology and risk profile of venous thromboembolism (VTE)

Session 2 – Methods of thromboprophylaxis

  • Aims to provide a basic introduction to modern prophylaxis of venous thromboembolism (VTE) including an overview of methods and the evidence base supporting such interventions, linked to national guidance

Session 3 – Implementation of thromboprophylaxis in hospitals

  • Aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the important elements to consider in a systems-based approach to VTE prevention in an institutional setting

Assessment

Aims to test the key concepts relating to venous thromboembolism including:

  1. The level of occurrence in the UK
  2. The patient and procedure-related risk factors associated with VTE
  3. The methods of thromboprophylaxis available for prevention and treatment of VTE
  4. The process of risk assessment
  5. The nature of thrombosis committees
  6. The potential use of risk assessment in primary care
 
Target audience

All qualified nurses and midwives, medical (all grades) and all pharmacists.
