Practical obstetric multiprofessional training (PROMPT)

Course description

The PROMPT course is a multiprofessional training course covering the management of a range of obstetric emergency situations including:

  • shoulder dystocia
  • emergency vaginal breech
  • eclampsia
  • cord prolapse
  • major obstetric haemorrhage
  • basic life support and maternal collapse
  • sepsis
  • basic newborn resuscitation
  • CTG interpretation and subsequent management
  • teamwork.

The format is interactive lectures and interactive drills and workshops.

 
Aims and outcomes

By the end of the course staff should:

  • have knowledge and understanding of all the topics listed above
  • be able to recognise and respond appropriately when encountering the obstetric emergency situations included
  • understand the importance of effective team working in clinical practice
  • have had hands on experience in drill scenarios.
 
 
Target audience

Midwifery staff, obstetric staff and anaesthetic staff undertaking obstetric rotation.
