Child protection level 3: topic specific - domestic violence course
Course description
In depth analysis of the individual topic. All health staff have a key role to play in protecting children and young people 0-18 yrs from domestic violence.
Staff will learn that domestic violence involves threats violence or abuse between people who have a relationship with each other or have had in the past. It can happen between partners, within families or shared homes and affects men and women in both hetreosexual and same sex relationships. It occurs in all cultures, religions and social classes. It is based on one person having power or control over another and it frequently gets worse over time. Domestic abuse takes many forms including physical, sexual, emotional, financial and being cut off from family and friends.
Aims and outcomes
By the end of the course you will :

be aware of the agencies working together to respond to domestic violence and the services available to protect and support children and families

demonstrate a knowedge of domestic violence in terms of the descriptors and objectives, and know how to identify and action concerns in practice
Target audience
Level 2 and 3: For all staff who work predominantly with children, young people and their parents or carers. And health staff who have particular responsibilities in relation to undertaking S47 enquiries, including consultants, paediatricians and registrars, senior nursing staff managers and staff who work with complex cases.
