Equipment training
SUHT is committed to ensuring that employees receive training in the use of medical and non-medical equipment. The aim is to minimise the risk of harm to patients, staff or visitors by the use of equipment.
All staff working within the Trust must ensure that they are trained in the correct operation of a specific piece of equipment before using it. All employees must also be able to produce evidence of having received training or demonstrate their competence. Because of the diverse range and vast quantities of equipment within SUHT, equipment training is carried out at a local level.
A medical devices training template| is provided to record details of training at departmental level.
The codes for medical devices| document contains the short-cut codes for use in the medical devices training template|.
Weighing scales
Please see this presentation| on how to use weighing scales properly.
This is important for calculating medicine doses, particularly in children, cancer patients and critically ill patients. It is also important for monitoring weight as part of MUST screening.
