Basic life support and automated external defibrillator (adult and paediatric) course

Course description
This session is intended to enable healthcare professionals to perform effective adult and paediatric basic life support and to perform safe and prompt defibrillation using a fully automated defibrillator.
 
Aims and outcomes
  • Recognition of the collapsed patient (adult and paediatric)
  • Assessment of cardio respiratory arrest
  • Summoning emergency assistance within the individual hospitals
  • Effective compression technique
  • Providing ventilation using current guidelines
  • BLS practice within the ALS (AED) algorithm
  • Safe use of the automated external defibrillator (shock box)
  • Do Not Attempt Resuscitation (DNACPR ) policy and the role of the cardiac arrest team
 
Target audience
This is the minimum standard that all staff who have a responsibility for the care of the patient (adult and paediatric), i.e. nurses, PAMS (professions allied to medicine) and clinical staff.
