Paediatric immediate life support (PILS) course
Course description
This one day Resuscitation Council UK course covers:
-
the recognition and initial management of the seriously ill child using the ABCDE approach
-
paediatric basic life support and choking (PBLS)
-
airway management
-
regularly used calcaulations regarding paediatric emergencies
-
modifications required to perform adult basic life support.
Aims and outcomes
By the end of the PILS course the student will have the required knowledge and skills needed to:
-
recognise a critically ill child using ABCDE approach
-
deal with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation
-
provide simple airway management
-
understand the anatomical differences between paediatric age ranges enabling them to manage all patients in cardiac arrest until arrival of a cardiac arrest team
Target audience
All clinical staff involved in the provision of acute paediatric clinical care.
Prerequisites
We will no longer be sending out manuals prior to the course. You can loan one from the library or purchase one from the resus office E level centre block (CE90) for £4.
You must also complete an multiple choice questionnaire (MCQ) before coming on the course. The MCQ will be sent with confirmation of your place by email.
Cost
No cost to UHS employees.
A non attendance fee of £50 may be charged if you do not advise us by email or phone if you are unable to attend.
Non UHS employees £160 (limited places).
