Paediatric intensive care in-house retrieval course

Course description

This course will provide delegates with:

  • the skills and knowledge required to safely stabilise and retrieve critically ill children referred to PICU by other hospitals
  • full knowledge of all the transport equipment
 
Aims and outcomes

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • use the transport equipment and undertake troubleshooting for this equipment
  • demonstrate patient stabilisation and safe transfer
  • understand air transport and altered physiology
  • successfully complete the transport scenarios using Sim baby
  • be aware of safety in the ambulance
 
Target audience

All PICU medical staff and senior nurses (bands five to seven).

 
Prerequisites

Employed as a PICU registrar or sick childrens nurse in PICU with at least two years experience. Nurses must work at least 23 hours a week.
