Recognition of paediatric emergencies course

Course description

This session is an introduction to:

  • recognising and managing paediatric emergencies before arrival of the paediatric emergency team
  • performing paediatric basic life support
  • the modifications required to perform adult basic life support
 
Aims and outcomes

By the end of the course the student will be able to:

  • recognise a critically ill child using an ABCDE approach
  • deal with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • provide simple airway management
  • understand the anatomical differences between paediatric age ranges, enabling them to manage all patients in cardiac arrest until arrival of a cardiac arrest team
 
Target audience

All staff who have a responsibility for the care of the paediatric patient i.e. nurses, PAMs (professions allied to medicine) and clinical staff.
