Vital life support (VLS) course

Course description
This course is designed to provide healthcare professionals with vital skills to enable them to recognise patients who are critically ill or peri arrest.
 
Aims and outcomes

By the end of the session students will be able to:

  • perform basic life support and initiate the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • assess all patients using the ABCDE approach
  • understand the immediate action to be taken in treatment of patients in peri arrest situations
  • recognise and treat within the current Resuscitation Council UK guidelines for patients having an anaphylactic reaction
 
Target audience

At Southampton the VLS course is run as a multidisciplinary course and is recommended for all clinical staff who are band 4 or above.
