Before you start

Up to six weeks before you start

First, you need to print off the Induction Checklist| as this will be required as evidence of your completion. It will also serve as an aide memoir, guiding you through this induction process.

Please take your time to read through the information on this page. It has been organised so that it reads in the order you should complete it.

If you wish to print this page, please ensure your print layout is set to landscape.

Medical human resources induction

Red icon - Before you start:Doctors InductionYour medical human resources (Medical HR) induction will provide you with information you need to know in order to be employed safely.

This induction is mandatory before starting work and is a condition of employment. You are required to open and read every document below (excluding voluntary reading), in order to sign off completion on your Induction Checklist.

You must then sign and date page 1 and 2 of your induction checklist and send or present these to medical HR on your induction day. You will not be able to sign your contract on your induction day and therefore begin work here until you produce this checklist.

Don't forget your Pre-employment checks - see the Information Sheet for successful applicants sent to you with your offer letter. You cannot start work unless you have had criminal records beareau (CRB) clearance and medical clearance from Occupational Health.

All FY1 doctors will require exposure prone procedure (EPP) clearance.  Doctors in Obs and Gynae, Emergency Department (ED), Surgical and Theatres posts are likely to carry out Exposure Prone Procedures (EPPs).  Under no circumstances must EPPs be carried out until full Occupational Health clearance has been given and a certificate of fitness to undertake EPPs is issued.

Relocation details

There is a pack located in the medical HR office containing relocation details for doctors in training throughout the region. Any claims for excess mileage in lieu of removal expenses are also dealt with through the relocation pack.

It is important that any claims you make for expenses, such as extra duty, travel on hospital business or relocation claims, are submitted shortly after the period to which the claim relates. All claims must be authorised by the appropriate authorised signatory in your department before payment can be made.

Terms and conditions of service

For additional information refer to the document below for the medical and dental Whitley council terms and conditions of service. This is not mandatory as part of the induction but is there purely for your information.

Generic induction: web-based training

The following programme has been developed to provide you with a comprehensive online introduction to working at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and forms only a part of your overall induction.

You need to register to use the web-based training. You will require a valid email address to register. If you do not have an email address you can obtain one from www.doctors.net.uk| Please allow up to 2 working days for your registration to be approved, as we need to check your GMC number against our Trust training database. Once approved, you will receive an email with your login details. You MUST complete ALL relevant modules (see below) before you attend for your induction day. Each module is followed by multiple choice questions. You will be expected to achieve 100% in all modules, and an email confirmation will be sent to an administrator upon completion.
