Clinical Skills provides a safe environment for the teaching and learning of clinical skills and communication skills and is a leading centre for inter-professional collaboration and education. This enables students to develop and maintain competence in all aspects of medicine and nursing, thereby promoting quality patient care.
Through research we seek to develop and evaluate new teaching and assessment strategies, promote independent learning and foster new initiatives in medical and nursing education.
The Skills Area aims to:
provide a safe and controlled environment for students and postgraduates in which to practice all levels of clinical skills and technical procedures
Facilitate high quality teaching and learning activities
Deliver easy to use and flexible resources for staff and students
Encourage the development of integrated learning and teaching using a variety of methods including manikins, computer-based simulations and Simpatients
Provide resources and expertise for the reliable and valid assessment of clinical competence at undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing stages
Promote multidisciplinary research
